Weekend Update 2-2-20

Dear M100 Families, Hope everyone is having a great weekend! So much going on in band right now! Many rehearsals and preparations for up-coming contests with solo and ensemble, Winter Guard, and the Musical PLUS many preparations behind the scenes for next year’s marching show, etc. Band is not a seasonal sport, so to speak…it’s year-round for sure!

Here’s what’s coming up…

Announcements for this week:

SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTEST – THIS SATURDAY – FEB. 8TH All of this info. is on the website

Location: Temple College. 2600 S 1st St, Temple, TX 76504

Transportation: Provided by individual student

What to wear: semi-formal, business casual – dress to impress. Judges are looking at you as you perform

What to bring: instrument, your copy of your music to perform from, bottle of water if you want, instrument accessories needed – extra reeds, oil, sticks, mallets, etc.

When to arrive: at least 30 minutes before your performance time. Check-in to your designated performance room, warm-up, perform. You can wait around for results or get them from your director on Monday.

Percussion: Please talk to Mr. Smith about loading/unloading responsibilities

Fees: Piano accompaniment fees due to Mrs. Gill by Wed., Feb. 5th. $50 check to Belton Band Boosters or cash. Please put money in an envelope clearly labeled with student’s name. Entry fees ($9 per student) were paid by BISD. Please show up to perform!

PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT FEES FOR SOLO CONTEST

This is a fee paid by each student for the service of a professional piano accompanist to rehearse twice with each student and perform with them at the solo contest on Feb. 8th. This only applies to brass or woodwind students who are doing a solo with piano accompanist who have indicated they need the school to provide an accompanist. Pianist will be paid $50 for this service this year. PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD BRING THEIR CHECK FOR $50 MADE OUT TO BELTON BAND BOOSTERS OR CASH. Please bring by this coming Wed., Feb. 5th. Thank you!

SOLO/ENSEMBLE ELIGIBILITY

If a student failed a regular credit class at the report card (“2nd” column on report card), the have until JANUARY 31 to be passing all reg. credit classes in order to be eligible for UIL solo/ensemble on Feb. 8th. Please keep up with your grades!!!!

SOLO/ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS / PERFORMANCE TIME

Rehearsals continue this week with the contest on Saturday. Mr. Kwaku is in charge of communicating with students as to their rehearsal times. Performance times are posted on the band website – “Itineraries”

SENIOR TRIP

Medical forms were due to Mrs. Gill on Monday, Dec. 16th. If you need a form please see the website – Senior Spring Trip 2020.

FUNDRAISING

Please check the recent email from our Band Boosters regarding the Coffee Fundraiser (started 1/31, ends 2/7) and the up-coming Big Red Relays. Coffee Fundraising forms in the band hall. More fundraisers to come as well!
